OUR MOTTO:

With these links and with the help of Godaddy.com's advertising girl, we are committed to deploy cross-platform convergence, morph cross-media paradigms, architect visionary action-items, redefine robust schemas, and where possible productize value-added technologies, seize seamless relationships (our personal favorite), and synergize mission-critical systems.

Additionally, we are strategizing against all viral partnerships, revolutionizing revolutionary portals (our current portal is down), deploying ubiquitous metrics, and when economically legal productizing sticky mindshare, engaging extensible web services, deploying user-centric content, or maybe integrating synergistic solutions, revolutionizing magnetic markets, incentivizing customized experiences, morphing best-of-breed channels (did we say morph?), then maybe if we have time and more money monetizing dynamic eyeballs, recontextualizing bricks-and-clicks e-tailers, envisioneering scalable web services (yeah, like that will ever happen), enabling transparent infrastructures, and probably unleashing end-to-end channels.

New Orleans Musicians' Clinic

From a recently sent email from a friend of mine, speaking of the recent helpful people of NO and NO Jazz:

To all my friends who are musicians or supporters of us that play music. Hurricane Katrina was a horrible event having an impact on many people in and around the gulf coast. I felt a need to help in a more specific way: find a way to assist our fellow musicians (some of whom came from the Chicago area) who through their efforts, attempt to keep alive the music and culture that we know as Jazz. In this birthplace of Jazz, many musicians are now impacted in ways we can't imagine.

"Do you know what it means, to miss New Orleans?" I certainly do: as does anyone that has spent any time in this unique city. It's hard to imagine!

Below you will find a list of various organizations that are collecting money, and other items in an effort to directly help the musicians of the New Orleans area. Many of these people are not wealthy to begin with, and now may have lost homes, personal possessions, instruments and venues to work. I've collected these through research and referrals from others looking to help.

My challenge to every musician is to take one night of income and help those fellow musicians and performers get back on their feet. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!

There'll be a Katrina benefit on Saturday. Hurricane Gumbo, the Chicago-based band that my friend and colleague Joe Sonnefeldt is in, will be playing a special show to raise money for the victims of hurricane Katrina. "Since we owe so much to the people, music & culture of N.O.L.A., this is a gig that the band members initiated and we are very happy that B.J. McMahon's agreed to host it since so many of our most loyal fans are on the south side. At the same time, I hope those of you from the north side and NW suburbs will come out to support this very worthy cause." Sat. September 24; 7:30-11:30pm, B.J. McMahon's, 5432 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, IL. See www.hurricanegumbo.net for more info.

Some of New Orleans' finest, The Astral Project, will be at The Green Mill on Fri. and Sat. Sept. 23 & 24. They've been regular visitors to the Mill for many years now. Let's show some support to these terrific players from my favorite music city.

'South Park' Battle 'Has Just Begun'

March 18, 2006

 (AP)

Quote:
"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun!"

"South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone

(AP) "South Park" has declared war on Scientology.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the animated satire, are digging in against the celebrity-endorsed religion after a controversial episode mocking outspoken Scientologist Tom Cruise was yanked abruptly from the schedule Wednesday, with an Internet report saying it was covert warfare by Cruise that led to its departure.

"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun!" the "South Park" creators said in a statement Friday in Daily Variety. "Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies... You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail!"

The Internet Blogger hollywoodinterrupted.com said Thursday that Cruise threatened to not promote "Mission: Impossible 3," a surefire summer blockbuster, if the offending episode ran. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, as is Paramount, which is putting out the film.

But Cruise's representative, Arnold Robinson, told The Associated Press Friday that the mega-star made no such demands.

"Not true," Robinson said. "I can tell you that he never said that."

A call by The Associated Press to a Paramount representative was not returned Friday.

The episode in question, "Trapped in the Closet," which first aired last November, shows Scientology leaders hailing Stan, one of the show's four devilish fourth-graders, as a savior. A cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out. An animated John Travolta, another famous Scientologist, enters the closet to try to get him out.

The battle began in earnest earlier this week when Isaac Hayes, another celebrity Scientologist and longtime show member, voicing the ladies' man Chef, quit the show, saying he could no longer tolerate its religious "intolerance and bigotry."

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
Stone and Parker didn't buy that either.

On Monday, Stone told The Associated Press, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith in Scientology...He has no problem, and he's cashed plenty of checks, with our show making fun of Christians."

A Comedy Central spokesman said Friday that the network pulled the controversial episode to make room for two shows featuring Hayes.

"In light of the events of earlier this week, we wanted to give Chef an appropriate tribute by airing two episodes he is most known for," the spokesman said.

Music Fun

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce the members of
tonight's band... in fact any band.

 "On piano____________:

But first a few words about pianists in general, they are
intellectuals and know-it-alls. They studied theory, harmony and
composition in college. Most are riddled with self-doubt. They are
usually bald. They should have big hands, but often don't. They were
social rejects as adolescents. They go home after the gig and play
with toy soldiers. Pianists have a special love-hate relationship with
singers. If you talk to the piano player during a break, he will
 condescend.

 "On bass we have _____________

Bassists are not terribly smart. The best bassists come to terms with
their limitations by playing simple lines and rarely soloing. During
the better musical moments, a bassist will pull his strings hard and
grunt like an animal. Bass players are built big, with paws for hands,
and they are always bent over awkwardly. If you talk to the bassist
during a break, you will not be able to tell whether or not he's
 listening.

 "On drums____________

Drummers are radical. Specific personalities vary, but are always
extreme. A drummer might be the funniest person in the world, or the
most psychotic, or the smelliest. Drummers are uneasy because of the
many jokes about them, most of which stem from the fact that they
aren't really musicians. Pianists are particularly successful at
making drummers feel bad. Most drummers are highly excitable; when
excited, they play louder. If you decide to talk to the drummer during
a break, always be careful not to sneak up on him.

 "On saxophone______________

Saxophonists think they are the most important players on stage.
Consequently, they are temperamental and territorial. They know all
the Coltrane and Bird licks but have their own sound, a mixture of
Coltrane and Bird. They take exceptionally long solos, which reach a
peak half way through and then just don't stop. They practice quietly
but audibly while other people are trying to play. They are obsessed.
Saxophonists sleep with their instruments, forget to shower, and are
mangy. If you talk to a saxophonist during a break, you will hear a
lot of excuses about his reeds.

 "On trumpet_______________

Trumpet players are image-conscious and walk with a swagger. They are
often former college linebackers. Trumpet players are very attractive
to women, despite the strange indentation on their lips. Many of them
sing; misguided critics then compare them to either Louis Armstrong or
Chet Baker depending whether they're black or white. Arrive at the
session early, and you may get to witness the special trumpet game.
The rules are: play as loud and as high as possible. The winner is the
one who plays loudest and highest. If you talk to a trumpet player
during a break, he might confess that his favorite player is Maynard
Ferguson, the merciless God of loud-high trumpeting.

 "On guitar_________________

Jazz guitarists are never very happy. Deep inside they want to be rock
stars, but they're old and overweight. In protest, they wear their
hair long, prowl for groupies, drink a lot, and play too loud.
Guitarists hate piano players because they can hit ten notes at once,
but guitarists make up for it by playing as fast as they can. The more
a guitarist drinks, the higher he turns his amp. Then the drummer
starts to play harder, and the trumpeter dips into his loud/high
 arsenal.

Suddenly, the saxophonist's universe crumbles, because he is no longer
the most important player on stage. He packs up his horn, nicks his
best reed in haste, and storms out of the room. The pianist struggles
to suppress a laugh. If you talk to a guitarist during the break he'll
ask intimate questions about your 14-year-old sister.

"Our feature vocalist is the lovely _____________

Vocalists are whimsical creations of the all-powerful jazz gods. They
are placed in sessions to test musicians' capacity for suffering. They
are not of the jazz world, but enter it surreptitiously. Example: A
young woman is playing minor roles in college musical theater. One
day, a misguided campus newspaper critic describes her singing as
"...jazzy." Voila! A star is born! Quickly she learns "My Funny
Valentine," "Summertime," and "Route 66." Her training complete, she
embarks on a campaign of musical terrorism. Musicians flee from the
bandstand as she approaches. Those who must remain feel the full fury
of the jazz universe. The vocalist will try to seduce you--and the
rest of the audience--by making eye contact, acknowledging your
presence, even talking to you between tunes. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS
TRAP! Look away, make your distaste obvious. Otherwise the musicians
will avoid you during their breaks. Incidentally, if you talk to a
vocalist during a break, she will introduce you to her "manager."

 "On trombone___________________

The trombone is known for its pleading, voice-like quality. "Listen,"
it seems to say in the male tenor range, "Why won't anybody hire me
for a gig?" Trombonists like to play fast, because their notes become
indistinguishable and thus immune to criticism. Most trombonists
played trumpet in their early years, then decided they didn't want to
walk around with a strange indentation on their lips. Now they hate
trumpet players, who somehow get all the women despite this
disfigurement. Trombonists are usually tall and lean, with forlorn
faces. They don't eat much. They have to be very friendly, because
nobody really needs a trombonist. Talk to a trombonist during a break
and he'll ask you for a gig, try to sell you insurance, or offer to
 mow your lawn."

"No one would buy a car with a welded-shut hood, yet we continue
to buy software that way. The Microsoft approach limits a user to
available software. With Linux, a user can grow. If a tool is missing
or awkward, someone can get under the hood and fix the problem."

"Two paths are before us. One leads to increasing proprietary
control, protectionist measures and legal threats, while the other
leads to open source, freedom and accelerated innovation. I, of
course, choose the latter because it is "win-win."

Vital innovation, new markets and vastly improved customer service
win the vote readily over the purveyors of proprietary hoarding."
--- Don Soegaard.
