The Junk Pile
Here is the list of everyday boring programs (and where appropriate, their direct Download Links) that I use in order to just plain help me out...

        GOOD JUNK

Hubi's MIDI Loopback    (see message below)

Hubi Midi Loopback Instructions     and rationale

                  Virtual Piano
                  Weatherbug
                  Y-TrayMagic Lite
                  Rain
                  Zone Alarm Pro

This is the "message below" ---

RE:  The Sonic Spot "WARNING" on the HUBI's MIDI Loopback program download page only occurs rarely with Win98, Win98SE and WinME machines that do not have their Message Services updated.  The update would have come with one of the many Windows Update site updates and is specifically updatable at Microsoft's Update site.

                  BAD JUNK

Mackie Tracktion  MAYBE try it on WindowsXP - maybe. It is generally a piece of crap software with a HUGE memory leak - and they know it, but haven't fixed and it's 11/18/2006, the site hasn't changed since it was introduced.

PureHost  They were, until as recently as October 2nd, 2006, the WindowsME of ISPs - some people swear by them, others just swear at them, but do it under their breath otherwise Level 1 phone answerers are instructed to hang.  I just had to learn to play their game.  But, even doing that, Subweb creation is a mystery to them (constantly asking me if I mean Sub-domains!) even though they "fully support" all features of FPSE2002 running on MS Server2003 (but they won't tell me for sure if it is in production mode).  :Lately, I have discovered that they use Dell Edge 64 bit servers (AMD) and of course MS Server2003 64bit, but Standard version, with IIS6 64bit latest update (as of August 7th, 2006).  One small step in the right direction, possibly.  It is 11/18/2006

Zone Alarm Pro   For the last year as owned by another company, there still isn't a better firewall out there for BOTH inbound AND outbound (phone-home) activity checking.

MS Antispyware Beta   No, not anymore since they upgraded it to some other crap.

MS The Next Worst Thing   Who knows?  Who cares?  If its scary, its from Microsoft.  Perhaps the bloated VISTA!  I cannot afford such a huge graphics card just to scroll my mouse around.  Ridiculous.

MS Zune   Just about he most incompatible excuse of iTunes "competition".  Please.

Web page software started with Trellix in 2000 free until DellHost made us PAY only 2 months after signing (!)
and was maintained on a WinNT 4 machine.
Site was then supported by Microsoft FrontPage 2000 (Server 2000) extensions.
Then Dell dumped us on VeriCenter Holdings in June of 2005, then they sold our account to AppSite Hosting - almost migrated properly.
Then AppSite Hosting (one month later) dumped us on their sister* company:
PureHost (4 months, then almost migrated but couldn't ever install 2002 extensions properly, they never did, until one day, the "bad" sub webs started working - with non explanation, they just closed the ticket ! then...)
and is maintained on Server2003 with FINALLY Server 2003 extensions (they kept 2002SE for Backward compatibility, oh boy) as of January 2006
AND a Linux Box for "security" which CONSTANTLY changes the Permissions of Server 2003 (PureHost: NOT THE Permissions Tab, but the SECURITY TAB is where the PERMANENT changes are made when using SharePoint Services, and NO you are NOT using Server 2003 extensions, as there is no such thing, small point, but its called Share Point Services in the Server2003 manual, very clearly - BIG DIFFERENCE)
I moved the domain to GoDaddy back in November 2005 (PureHost was listed as an aggregator with Network Solutions !), but I (me) am still asked to re-do the Technical Contact in the Purehost database - they still don't know until March, 2006.
Life is good, PureHost is not - run from them and their parent company, Endurance Intl Group and their parent holding company, *Audax Private Equity Investments run by Audax Group in partnership with their affiliate Highpoint Capital, like a frightened schoolgirl running from the local crack dealer.  I can only hope that Gary Engel has not copied his upper management buddies, and that this is the only reason things aren't any better at Purehost.  Gary, who was in on the ground floor of eSupportNow 1999, they spun out of The Cross Country Group in 1998. The company was privately held and venture-backed by Atlas and Polaris Venture Partners, but at least as of March 2006, its online name, eSupportNow's domain name is being held by name.net.  Perhaps eSupportNow could have used its own help from itself.  Back then, and article with the following appeared on allbusiness.com and it said , in part, "...After a less than perfect shopping experience, the salesperson can help soothe the customer, by apologizing or offering on-the-spot redress to restore her faith in the store, the brand and/or maybe the product itself....", by Gary's old boss, Renan Levy.  I couldn't imagine a nightmare credo such as that, and I have to believe that Gary must have cringed when he read that!  That, in my opinion, is all that Purehost might have left to give their remaining customers: Immediate redress.  Perhaps Purehost should read Cross Country's Corporate Values Statement, because today (April 1st,2006, no joke) Purehost's is the antithesis.  Then again, Levy was a decision-tree believer when it came to Y2K, and if that isn't the worst way to run customer services then I don't know what is:  If in web world the customer can't talk directly to the expert "fixing" their problem, then shame on the company that doesn't allow it.  Let us not forget the wisdom of Mr. Selland. after leaving eSupportNow.com.
